I have a theory, so buckle up.
I think people are so scared to try new things because everything is too cliquey.
As an adult, it can be hard to make friends. We don’t have school to give us instant friendships, and sometimes we really can’t stand the people we work with. So, what are we sad adults to do?
Joining a book club is always an option. I know plenty of people that do it and love it. However, sometimes that just turns into weekly boozy gossip sessions where nobody actually reads the books.
Churches are cliques. If you want to argue about it, my Instagram DMs are open.
Joining a gym can also be intimidating for that exact reason. Group fitness classes have regulars, and when those regulars are friends, it doesn’t always create a welcoming environment. It’s also easy for instructors and students to become friends and fall into that super-close relationship where that daily feels more like a sweaty social hour. However, if the newcomers aren’t in that clique,
Luckily, there are places that fitness folk can go to feel welcome into the fun. Pole studios do an excellent job of bringing people from all backgrounds. One studio in Las Vegas played a pivotal role in spearheading the movement for sexy all-around fun where everyone is welcome, and it’s an OG in the community.
Enter Pole Fitness Studio Las Vegas.
Pole Fitness Studio: The Olive Garden of Pole Studios
The self-named temple of dance got its start in 2005 and is the oldest pole studio in Las Vegas.
With 32 poles and four rooms, PFS is diverse in its class offerings. There are almost 400 classes a month for every kind of dance interest, with up to 20 happening in a single day.
The PFS schedule includes:
Spin Pole and Heels – There’s no mystery here. If you want to learn the ins and outs of spinning pole—or you’ve never put on a pair of stripper heels in your life—these classes are perfect for you.
Fundamentals/Conditioning Classes – nothing is more important than getting strong to get sexy. Going back to the basics is also important for longtime dancers.
Vertical Barre – Ready to feel sore in ways you never imagined? Unless you’re an active ballerina, this class will target the muscles you never knew you had. Get ready for the most useful foot stretches of your life, in addition to many other moves and methods.
Flexy Floor Work – There’s more to pole dancing than performing super-acrobatic tricks 100 feet in the air. Learn to make love to the floor with classes that will challenge your movement and allow you to explore and create.
Burlesque – This is your Christina Aguilera fantasies come to life. Learn how to move in the sensual, captivating way that burlesque dancers do with ease.
There are also aerial and lyra classes, yoga, striptease, lap dance, twerk, and wellness classes.
Special Occasion Savvy
One of the many things that PFS does right is their pole party experience. These are perfect for wedding parties, birthdays and just-for-fun friend outings.
Their long-standing history with the city means that every perk and add-on is possible for a night out with friends. Ask for VIP club access and party bus services. If you’re feeling bold, request a male dancer for your party.
Beyond the out-of-town appeal, PFS hosts charity events and clothing swaps for the local community, in addition to twice-yearly recitals to celebrate its instructors and students.
PFS and Fawnia Mondey
What makes Pole Fitness Studio different from every other studio is that it was founded by a woman who took a chance and went down an uncharted path. Fawnia Mondey took the taboo act of stripping and turned it into a mainstream form of fitness.
Fawnia is a household name in the pole community. Every history write-up mentions her name, christening her with the title of “the world’s first pole dance instructor.” With almost 30 years in the business, it’s a sound claim.
She got her start pole dancing in Victoria and Vancouver BC Canada in 94’, where she stripped at Monty’s, The Red Lion, The Cecil and The Penthouse for 18 months before emigrating to the US. When she moved to Las Vegas in 2005, she only had one friend in the city, and started building her pole empire right away.
She also hosted Pole Expo, an international pole dance convention that brought dancers, vendors and performers together under one roof to celebrate the art of pole. Although Pole Expo is temporarily discontinued, Fawnia is heavily involved in the pole dance community and Vegas adult entertainment industry.
