Oh hey!
So glad you found this corner of the Internet.
As Jack Black says in one of my favorite movies of all time, Nacho Libre, “let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.”
Welcome to the Poletrotters website and blog!
This will be the largest online platform for pole dancers, gyms, clubs, apparel, news, events, and more. Watch and see, my friends.
Let’s start with the good stuff.
Why poletrotters?
For all of you sportspeople out there, the Harlem Globetrotters is a household name. For anyone that has no idea what I’m talking about, the Globetrotters is a popular basketball team that travels the world for exhibition games. The team isn’t a traditional NBA team, but more of a collection of professionals that aim to showcase themselves and highlight their own special skills.
For example, Moose Weekes has made other television appearances as an actor, in addition to owning the court. Ice Hrynko, a 5’8” badass woman, played professional basketball in Europe and now dominates the court with all those huge dudes.
That’s what I love about this team; they’ve come together from wildly different backgrounds, and their framework is so different, but they’re a collection of supportive individuals that make a dope team. They’re two parts sports and one part entertainment. Their legacy stems from a desire to represent the positive impact they brought to sports and entertainment, instead of any negative stigmas.
I’ve taken a page from their book for my platform; Poletrotters is for active travelers that enjoy looking at the world from new angles, as well as breaking down any ignorance that surrounds our topics here. This could be anything from cultural to stereotypical. We tackle it all, baby.
There are two poles to travel between on Earth, and a whole lot of life to sample. This is especially geared towards pole dancers, who often look at the world upside down.
See my double entendre there? I don’t know, my mom thought it was clever.
so what are we here for?
This blog is for two things: travel and pole dancing. I’ll occasionally talk about wine and other snippets of interest, but those are the niches.
My content is geared towards travelers and niche fitness industry professionals, namely pole dancers. I’m a blogger, and my mission is to hold a digital connection with my audience and help others do the same. This is also a celebratory site; we’re not here to bash anyone, we’re here to have a good fucking time. We’re pretty casual in this household.
The bread and butter of this site (and what I can contribute to others) will be blog posts. I’ve also been known to trick out an ‘About Me’ page from time to time. Also, I may start a podcast at some point, but who isn’t trying to do that these days?
I also want to take all the basic crap out of reading a blog. You’ll never see me standing in a sundress with a big-ass sunhat in Santorini or looking out at a mountain range with some flimsy outfit on that I changed into just to take the picture. That kind of Internet fakery gives me a rash.
Now that the formalities are out of the way, let’s break the ice, shall we?
Here’s a little bit about me:
- Writing is the only thing I’m good at.
- I’m an ex-pat in South Korea (yes, an English teacher) when this post is going up. If you’re reading this and it’s not April 2021, I may have jumped to another country. It’s hard to stay in one place for long.
- Speaking of which, travel is my hobby, and the world’s biggest tease at the moment (fuck you, COVID)
- I pole dance as often as I can. However, I have a five-foot-ten (178 cm) stature and horrible shoulder flexibility. There are days where all I can do is sit on the floor and watch my tiny bendy dancer friends succeed. That’s okay with me, this journey isn’t a rushed one.
- I hate fuzzy jackets and light blue denim wash. Tomatoes are the devil’s fruit. I also respond to texts as often as I do meth: never.
The most important detail here is that I do not have a dance background.
Like, at all.
I was a volleyball player for ten years and screwed up my shoulders almost beyond repair. By the time I was 20, my choices were depressing: either have surgery and keep playing or stop altogether.
Needless to say, that dried up my volleyball career, but all was well because in that time I’d picked up ZUMBA!
Before they introduced all the weight-lifting features, Zumba was pure cardio. I was a certified instructor for eight years and taught all over the country. However, Zumba is easy to learn, and I got bored of it after a while. I took one pole dance class with a friend and was immediately hooked.
poletrotters isn’t about me, though.
When the world reaches a more accessible ‘normal,’ there will be a surge of travel and hopefully, a reintroduction of in-person fitness classes. It helps that pole dancing is already a social distance-friendly sport because if it wasn’t, people would be clubbing each other with their limbs or getting smacked with a rogue heel. Plus, with the abundance of online classes available from gyms worldwide, it would serve the masses to have a spot to access any type of class they want, outside of Mindbody.
My goal is to create a worldwide community of dancers and travelers without bias, that can share their industry knowledge on a platform that caters to everyone, not just influencers or mainstream recreational dancers. We cater to the open-minded and adventurous. This is for people to laugh at their own mistakes and flubs, as they fall off the pole or drop their phone in a pitcher of sangria.
This is a real blog for real people to come together and be passionate.
Ugh. It’s always so awkward writing these. First-blog posts, I mean.
All the experts say that the first time you do anything, it sucks, but I’ve written thousands of blog posts in my career as a writer. Granted, most of them were ghostwritten, but writing personal things is way different. It feels way more vulnerable.
This is a site that is open to change and growth. As of now, it’s just me behind the scenes, with the support of a few very talented friends inside and outside of the pole community. I can’t wait to hear from you on how best to grow our empire.
It’s been two years since I first started climbing a pole, and I have a long way to go in terms of industry knowledge, blogging prowess, and my own physicality. Therefore, I come to you as something of a novice and hope you’ll be willing to come along on this journey with me into the most fabulous kingdom of dance on the planet. Let’s GOOOOOOOOO.

Let’s get started!
